CAN I JOIN IF I'VE NEVER ROWED BEFORE?
Yes, we have a great novice rowing programme of over 100 members. It will take you from having never rowed before to competing at BUCS events before the end of your first year. Outstanding novice rowers are able to compete for a place in one of our senior Henley Women’s Regatta or Henley Royal Regatta crews.
IS THERE A CUT-OFF?
No, we will never cut athletes. We are open to and cater for rowers of all abilities and all aims.
HOW DOES TRAINING FIT AROUND LECTURES?
Circuits and water sessions are all at a fixed time. However, these are all positioned so that they don’t interfere with most academic timetables. All other sessions such as ergs, cardio and weights are all to be done in your own time to fit into your personal timetable. Ergs and cardio can also be done in our erg room located on Streatham Campus by the Sports Park.
WHERE DOES UOEBC ROW?
We train on a 4.5km stretch of the Exeter Shipping Canal which is home to Exeter Head.
The shipping canal is non-tidal with no stream and high sheltered banks giving us the ability to train all year round with no risk of flooding.

WHAT CREWS DOES THE CLUB RACE?
We have no separate sculling and sweep squads meaning that all athletes have the chance to do both. This gives us the opportunity to put out all boat types. We have a long history of success in both lightweight and openweight categories from singles up to eights.
HOW DOES PRESEASON WORK?
Preseason runs at the start of September before Welcome Week and all potential members of the senior squad are invited. It is a fantastic opportunity to integrate our new members with returning rowers. The week features a balance of training and socials with BBQ's, beach trips and club nights. Our freshers are hosted by returning senior rowers meaning there is no need to worry about organising accommodation.
DO YOU HAVE A TRAINING CAMP?
We usually run two training camps each year. The first is Winter Camp, usually a week-long at the end of term in December. The second is Easter Camp which is a week-long and held in the run-up to BUCS Regatta and the rest of the summer season.
